Donation to Colombia

Dear Friends of the Artisanal Gold Council,

I would like to invite all friends of the Artisanal Gold Council to join me in supporting Colombia, even with a small donation, as the country begins to confront the devastating consequences of this earthquake.

For me, this tragedy is deeply personal. Colombia is the country where I was born, and Cali—my city—is among the places that have been seriously affected. Seeing the destruction and the suffering of so many families is heartbreaking.

But the Artisanal Gold Council’s connection to Colombia goes far beyond my own personal ties. Over many years, Artisanal Gold Council has built strong relationships in the country through our work under the leadership of our Country Manager, Julio Porras, and his wonderful team. We have developed lasting friendships with the mining communities where we have worked—from Southern Bolívar to Chocó—and with the many Colombian colleagues and partners who have welcomed us and worked alongside us.

We also have a strong and dynamic partnership with our friends at Orosinu, with whom we share the commitment to developing practical and sustainable technical alternatives to mercury use in artisanal and small-scale gold mining.

These are not simply professional relationships. They are friendships and partnerships built over the years. Today, many of the people and communities of a country that has welcomed Artisanal Gold Council so warmly are facing an extraordinarily difficult moment.
