Joy Akaa
Joy brings more than 15 years of international experience in legal, procurement, and governance work across the energy, extractives, and environmental sectors.
She has served in senior procurement and contract management roles with organizations including AltaGas and Chevron. She has also consulted for different companies involved in mining, utilities and telecommunication businesses. In governance, Joy is affiliated with Board Ready Women and Institute of Corporate Directors and has contributed to board strategy and oversight in public-interest initiatives.
She now supports the Artisanal Gold Council in expanding its fundraising pipeline, strengthening board development, and cultivating partnerships with donors and institutions across Africa, Europe, and North America. Her work is grounded in a deep commitment to the economic transformation of gold-producing communities by promoting the use of inclusive and sustainable solutions necessary for mercury-free gold production. She is passionate about ethical mining, and creating pathways for local innovation to align with global best practices.
