Kevin Telmer, PhD - Executive Director
Kevin Telmer is a Founding Director of the Artisanal Gold Council. He is an expert in ASGM with 15 years experience working in the field with miners and governments in technical, social, policy, and business capacities. Dr. Telmer works in partnership with, UNEP, UNIDO, ICMM and the mining industry, and NGO partners such as SONAMIPE and ARM in Peru, YTS in Indonesia, the Blacksmith Institute and NRDC in the US, the World Bank's Secretariat on Communities in Small Scale Mining (CASM), and others. His advice and expertise are sought after by numerous groups around the world. Dr. Telmer started working in ASGM in 1995 in the Amazon and continued this work in many countries across three continents. He is a voice on the international stage on ASGM and has been published in numerous sources on the issue. Dr. Telmer holds an H.BSc in geology, received his PhD from the University of Ottawa in Geochemistry, and has been an associate professor at the School of Earth and Ocean Sciences, University of Victoria since 1999. He also chairs the International Commission on Geosciences for Environmental Management (IUGS-GEM).

Daniel Stapper, M.Sc.Field Operations Officer 
Daniel Stapper has been with the AGC for over three years and has extensive experience in ASGM communities in Africa, Asia, and South Amercia. With his field expertise and language skills, Stapper serves as a field operations expert for the Council's projects and programmes. He also develops educational materials for miners, governments and the public. Stapper holds a B.Sc. in Biology and Geomatics and a M.Sc. in Earth and Ocean Science from the University of Victoria. 

Paleah Black Moher, Ph.D. - Human and Ecosystem Health Officer
Paleah brings to the AGC an in-depth knowledge of the health issues surrounding ASGM and in particular mercury and heavy metal exposure. Paleah’s expertise in health is applied to assess health issues in ASGM communities, advise on health policy, and provide solutions to health risks - both human and ecological health. Paleah grew up in the Canadian Arctic community of Iqaluit, Nunavut, and has extensive experience in contamination of traditional foods. She has conducted health research with Health Canada, the Universidad National in Costa Rica, as well as various Canadian universities. Paleah holds a Ph.D. from the University of Ottawa in Ecotoxociology.   

Ricardo Rossin, M.Sc. - Environmental Science and Analytical Chemistry Officer
Ricardo Rossin is the AGC's technical expert on environmental science and geochemical analysis. He has extensive experience with geochemical analysis of rocks, soils, water, and air and has operated and maintained numerous analytical instruments including ICPMS, AA, CVAFS, IR, and many more, for trace element, gold, and high precision, custom, mercury analysis. Rossin has installed state of the art atmospheric monitoring systems for mercury and meteorological data in the field in gold mining communities, trained local operators, and created training manuals. Rossin is also an expert in the design of field sampling surveys. 

Jade Besant - Administrator and Public Relations Officer
Jade helps administrate the AGC office. She leads the communications and marketing initiatives at the AGC. 

Kevin Paterson, B.Sc.HGeologic Exploration Officer
Kevin Paterson works with the AGC for technical studies and logistics. He designs and manages the AGC's exploration geology endevours including design and management of sampling programmes in gold exploration and environmental research. Kevin also assists in communications and marketing. He holds a B.Sc.H in Earth and Ocean Sciences from the University of Victoria 

Anthony Persaud, B.A. H - Communications and Policy Officer
Anthony is a writer and researcher with extensive experience working with small communities in Latin America.  His expertise lies in community engagement and development initiatives, sustainable economic development and social responsibility.  He holds a B.A. Honours in history and is fluent in the Spanish language.

Mihir Deb, PhD

Dr. Deb is an internationally recognized ore deposit expert who has been working on Artisanal and Small Scale Mining in India in association with the Artisanal Gold Council and the International Union of Geosciences Commission on Geosciences for Environmental Management (IUGS-GEM). Most recently Dr. Deb produced the first estimate of mercury use in ASGM in India, along with the socio-economic dimensions of Indian ASGM and presented it at the International Congress on Mercury as a Global Pollutant (ICMGP) in Halifax in July, 2011. Andres Recalde, B.Sc., MBA
Associate: Corporate Social Responsibility
Andres Recalde is an expert in CSR and provides advice and planning on AGC field projects and AGC operations. He also is an expert in the business of gold mining and provides a key understanding of the industry. He manages AGC client and partner relationships and has been in the industry for over 15 years. He has worked in corporate social responsibility around the globe, consulting and providing expertise for the ASGM sector. Mr. Recalde is the north american representative for SONAMIPE - the small scale miners association of Peru.

Manuel Reinoso
Associate: President SONAMIPE and AGC representative for Peru
Mr. Reinoso is a small scale miner and works with the AGC in Peru and Latin America on field projects. He helps design and implement innovative strategies to improve ASM communities livlihoods. On behalf of the AGC, he communicates with the SONAMIPE network, which has a representative in each of Peru's provinces (departmentos). He is currently the president of The National Association Small Scale Miners in Peru (SONAMIPE). He has served as chairman on numerous different non-profits and company boards. Reinoso organized the first meeting of south american artisanal miners in the city of Arequipa. He is a respected resource on ASGM in Peru and around the globe. 

Benjamin Mapani, Ph.D 
Associate: AGC representative for Namibia
Dr. Mapani is a member of several geological organizations, including Geology for Environmental management (GEM). Ben Mapani has been working in the area of environment related issues since 1998; looking at a variety of issues such as Acid Mine Drainage (AMD) on gold mines and various base metal mines as they relate to groundwater pollution/protection. He has also been very involved with Artisanal Small Scale Gold miners, focusing on the issues of mercury, socio-economic issues which affect them, and highlighting their plight in search of better livelihoods. Ben Mapani is currently a researcher and Senior Lecturer at the University of Namibia, in Windhoek, Namibia. Ben Mapani has published in excess of 35 scientific publications and has also played a role in advising government on certain issues of policy related to the minerals industry.
